Weed in the Wild: Pre-Rolls & Peaks

Weed in the Wild: Pre-Rolls & Peaks |The Pottery LA

It’s pre-roll promo week here at The Pottery, and as part of our Weed in the Wild month where we’re encouraging everyone to get out and enjoy nature & cannabis in the sunny spring weather.

One amazing way to get outside and get active in our area is by experiencing one of the many great hikes right in our own backyard. Discovering the best hikes in the Los Angeles area really depends on who you ask, but these are some of our favorites in a range of local spots— plus our recommendation for the best cannabis terpenes to pair with them.

Malibu Creek State Park

This is more a series of hikes to choose from than a specific hike, but we’re putting it on the list because all of Malibu Creek State Park is a hiker’s dream. From casual walks along the bottom of the canyon to intense climbs up the surrounding ridges, there’s something for everyone. Plus, the whole area is filled with lakes, rivers, creeks, rock formations, and enough natural beauty to make you forget the traffic awaiting you back home.

The Pottery Recommends:
Malibu Creek State Park is filled with a range of beautifully fragrant old-growth trees, so why not pair it with a pre-roll high in pinene— the same terpene found in many other naturally occurring plants and herbs. Plus, you’ll benefit from the improved breathing and anxiety relief that comes from this popular terpene.

Mount Baldy

While it’s technically named Mount San Antonio, locals have given the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains the moniker of Mount Baldy. Towering 10,000 feet up, you’ll get serious bragging rights for submitting this peak— and the sore quads to prove it. But your reward will be absolutely unforgettable views and the thrill of hiking along narrow ridgelines along the way. And did we mention that the trailhead is less than an hour from LA on a good day?

The Pottery Recommends:
With scientifically researched anti-inflammatory benefits, an intense hike like Mount Baldy could benefit from a terpene such as caryophyllene or myrcene. Both have been shown to help reduce swelling in sore joints and muscles, and caryophyllene even helps serve as an antioxidant, too.

Runyon Canyon

It’s not the most secluded hike in the LA area, but for a quick workout and natural escape after work or on a Saturday morning, Runyon Canyon is tough to beat. It’s got just about everything you could want from a city park— easy trails, harder climbs, an off-leash dog park, and even occasional free yoga near the entrance on Fuller Avenue. Whether the possibility of running into celebrities while you’re drenched in sweat is a pro or a con for you, we can’t say. Either way— Runyon Canyon deserves a spot on the list.

The Pottery Recommends:
Runyon Canyon is a perfect quick hike to boost your mood and offer some much-needed stress relief. With that in mind, we recommend you pair it with cannabis that features limonene. This terpene is known for its mood-boosting effects and ability to provide stress and anxiety relief in many consumers.

Cahuenga Peak and the Wisdom Tree

If you’ve ever looked up at the Hollywood sign and thought, can I climb up there?— this hike is for you. It’s our favorite way to get behind the sign because it lets you feel like you’re actually out in nature, rather than still in the middle of the city. Plus, you’ll get to pay your respects to the Wisdom Tree, the lone surviving tree from a fire that ripped through the area in 2007. If you’re wanting to do something sort of tourist-y in your own city but still want to feel like you’ve found a hidden gem, try this trail.

The Pottery Recommends:
A challenging hike that will leave you with some seriously sore muscles, Cahuenga Peak is best paired with a cannabis product that’s high in the terpene myrcene, which has been shown to help reduce swelling as an anti-inflammatory. It can also help improve sleep quality, something you’ll definitely need after conquering the peak and spending your day

Mishe Mokwa Trail to Sandstone Peak and Tri Peaks

The Santa Monica Mountains are an underrated spot to really feel like you’re out in the wilderness without traveling far from downtown LA. And the best trail in the Santa Monica Mountains is the Mishe Mokwa Trail to Sandstone Peak and Tri Peaks. We’re talking rugged, stony ridges, lush green canyons and valleys, and even plenty of spots to rock climb if that’s your thing. And, of course, you’ll get insane views of the Pacific Ocean and Santa Monica Bay. Seriously, do not miss out on this hike when you have a day to take it on.

The Pottery Recommends:
A stunning hike that’s filled with a sensory buffet for the eyes, ears, and nose deserves a cannabis strain to match. Consider something rich in a wide range of terpenes, giving you a full spectrum of aromas, tastes, and benefits as you take in the natural beauty that surrounds you.
